Jack McMinn in camp is surprising, I don’t know if he makes it but for my money, he’s a lot better than an 11th rounder.

OK.... so if we cross reference the protected list to the roster released today, here's who is NOT expected to be here:
Ben Boyd Denver Damphousse Jeremy Dumas Ethan Gardula Ronnie Hill Owen Hollingsworth Joel Marchon Carter Murchison Jarrett Todd Kevin Walker
Johnny Harbour Shawn Leary Alexandre Tessier Dixon Grimes Dustin Riff
Of note.....
-Only Jeremy Dumas from our 2023 draft class is not coming to this year's camp.
-Interesting to see the number of Americans on this list.... Seifker from last year's draft plus Carkner and Doherty from this year's draft. Now.... I'll suggest all to be cautions. In other years, the verbal well before camp included Americans coming up, only to have the plans change as camp starts.
-Rutledge is there but Murchison is not.
-Jarret Todd is not part of our camp roster. Todd spent a sizeable part of the past two seasons injured... I'm wondering if there's a lingering injury keeping him out.
-A couple of 18 y/o's who have been to camp twice before, Kevin Walker and Dustin Riff are absent.
-Great to see 17 y/o Jack McMinn coming in for a look. He did not attend camp at all last year, if I recall correctly. As mentioned, McMinn was an 11th round pick but was ranked significantly higher in the 2022 draft. He might be a great addition if he's now interested in the major junior pathway.
Looking forward to seeing these guys on ice!

Interesting to note that American prospect Corbin Carkner (who's supposed to be coming up) is the son of former NHL player Matt Carkner. I tried to string together a connection between Matt Carkner and either of Jim or Guy but I can't.
Carkner would have been eligible to declare himself into the OHL draft as well, since he is the child of a former OHL player.

I notice that 18 y/o former Islanders draft pick Mitchell Wagner is with Gatineau at training camp. I'm not sure if we released him outright and he is there as a camp invite or if he's there on loan from us.

Any idea why the import forward isn’t listed on either roster?

Hopefully Mossey isn’t too injured…seems to have some potential but has been riddled with injuries thus far in his career

Game 1 of the Cusson Cup completed. Thrilling competition. Going to be a fun camp. Website has an article but some details are inaccurate.
Did not participate: Lucas Romeo, Jarrett Todd, Nathan Mossey, Jeremy Dumas, Ondrej Maruna
5-5 in regulation. Black goals: Giovanni Morneau, Will Allen (from Corbin Carkner), Kevin Walker, Marcus Kearsey (from Edouard Vincent), Sheldon Rankin (from Mathis Valente & Giovanni Morneau) White goals: Simon Hughes, Simon Duguay, Lane Hinkley, Alexis Michaud, Kiefer Lyons (from Cole Huckins)
Shootout (Flanagan for black, Carter for white): Black - Morneau (stopped), Kearsey (stopped) White - Huckins (goal), B. Arsenault (goal)
Team Black standouts: Giovanni Morneau (MVP; better be a lock for the overage group), Michael Horth, Will Allen, Corbin Carkner, Kevin Walker, Mathis Valente, Owen Conrad, Zackary Plamondon, all four goalies (MVP was Rylan Aitken)
Team White standouts: Simon Hughes (MVP), Robbie Rutledge, Matthew Butler, Kyle Powers, Nolan Avery, Lane Hinkley, Jack McMinn, Simon Duguay, Aksels Ozols, Jack Carter (G MVP)
Not-so-positive standouts (anyone not mentioned was okay/neutral): Alexis Michaud, Kian Bell, Anthony Flanagan, Jake Doherty, Kenzie Wagner, Charles Wilson
More notes: - Morneau and Horth were the overage stand-outs... Huckins and Bell were meh - Michaud has a heck of a shot but his skating and energy were lackluster - Kearsey and Topilnyckyj had a rough start as a pairing, but they rebounded in the third - Carkner gave Michaud a good hit in the corner; both Michaud and Hughes gave him a couple whacks and cross-checks seconds after - A few players were great offensively but were easy to hit (Lyons, Valente, A. Flanagan were examples) - A few players were great physically but lacked everywhere else (Wagner, Siefker were examples) - If Jack Carter is reassigned and has a growth spurt, he could be in line for something next year.. many great saves today and denied two top players in the shootout
Friendly reminder, just game one. Everything said could do a complete 360 tomorrow with two more games. Lots of players with potential, but need to show more. Things will make more sense once we learn who chooses the university/college route.
