a) Lack of valuable assets b) So you are adding players. So are we. You have what? 1 extra pick in the first 5 rounds over us? c) He hasn't played in the Q yet, though (not a current player) d) We don't owe PEI anything and e) We also won. The Presidents Cup finals isn't anywhere near the Calder Cup finals in terms of effort that it takes to host.

All things being equal between Halifax and Saint John, Saint John will not sell-out every game like Halifax did in 2000 and would probably do if Halifax is succesful for 2012. I'm not quite so sure that is a fair comparison. I was a season ticket holder back then and never missed a game. As you recall, most of the home games (if not all if I recall correctly) were sell-outs after the Christmas season in 1999 & 2000. I don't think you could say the same today. Theefore, it would require a good upsell to walk-in traffic to get those sell-outs you speak of. To be honest, I'm not so sure you could. It was a far different game on the ice then, and we haven't seen such excitement in this barn since. Think back: Remember the hate we had for Grenier and the Rempart, and then we swept them in the two games back-to-back. I'll never forget HAL standing on top of the north end net with the old corn broom as Quebec left the ice. Priceless. There was electricity in the barn, and I haven't felt that game in game out since that year. All in all, I think it would be really tough selling it out. Not saying it can't be done, just gonna be tough.

e) We also won. The Presidents Cup finals isn't anywhere near the Calder Cup finals in terms of effort that it takes to host. Neither is anything like hosting a tournament ... not even close. You don't "host" a Calder Cup ... you are one of two teams that play in it. It is just a little more effort than any playoff round ... except that you get a little more media to deal with. You don't have to worry about the other team's needs ... they take care of themselves. Winning the Calder Cup doesn't add anything to the equation ... just shows you are grasping at straws.

The Calder Cup Finals I am glad Halifax is bidding on the Memorial Cup, and hope that they see the bid through to the end and lose. Right now, their team in two years would be no better than Moncton's team was at the beginning of this year (It will likely be worse), and you won't have anywhere near the assets that Moncton had to build. On the flip side, Saint John has never ever spent much in the way of assets, so we'll still plenty to trade with without having to worry about crippling our future. On top of that, we have studs in Kirkpatrick and Despres to potentially deal next year to bulk up our 2012 team even more. At quick glance, Halifax's current players that could be back are: Clarke, Garrett Bishop, Jamie Hannay, Sawyer Wigginton, Andrew Abeltshauser, Konrad Costello, Jordan Randell, Travis GĂ©linas, Carl Desjardins, Gabriel Bernard, Jessyko Lemieux, Alex MacDonald, Bradley Gillard, Steve McGuigan, Dylan Andrews, Brent That's 5 D and a crap load of forwards. There might be 5 or 6 out of the group that will be top 3 line-worthy at the time and you need to get a goalie. Saint John has: Gagne Beaulieu Durepos Bourret Galiev Jurco (potentially for the Euros) Huberdeau Kelly Oke Phillips MacAuley Gauthier (possibly) Likewise, we should have 5 D (with Sock) and 5 or 6 top 9 forwards, but we will have more to buy with (because we can sell next year). If you want to add Stock then you should also add Moosehead 16 year olds, 3rd and 4th round picks Boudreau (Forward) and Lewis (D). Both could play on this team right now, both have been call ups and both played pretty well. Boudreau was, not sure if he still is, at the top of the Que Midget AAA league scoring. Next draft they have a high 1st round and euro pick, three 2nd rd picks and a 3rd rd pick. In 2011 they have a first, two 2nds and two 3rds. Tons of assets for the next few years.
