The way it looks right now is Andrew Ryan is going to be the last cut. Which I really really wish this kid makes the team. I think even if he only plays maybe say 20 games this year, he's going to see more ice time and off ice training here then he would where ever he ends up going to. Which brings me to what I was going to ask. If he doesn't make the moose where will he end up? Does he go back to his school team or does some Jr A team own his rights so he could play there for a year? Ryan would go back to Notre Dame and play 45 games on their top line...how do you figure he would get more ice in Halifax playing 20 games???

There on the ice 5/ 6 times a week. I said ice time not play time. There's no way you can say that he'll get on the ice and get to skate as much as they do here. People aren't aware of the amount of time these kids are at the rink.

You just have to look at who came out from that school (Lecavalier, Richards and more recently Couturier and Gormley as examples).

if the mooseheads cut ryan, they're idiots. he can obviously play and play well and his upside is ridiculous.
you are not going to see this kid get cut.

The Cats sent Melindy back to Notre Dame last season when he was 16, and he doesn't seem to have missed a step in his development judging by what we have seen this year in camp so far - he looks poised to play regular minutes as a 17 year old.

The kid needs to play...Halifax has ruined too many players by letting them rot in the press box and play 20 games.

Im fairly certain Jaiden Schwarz played at Notre Dame at 15 and 16 and the USHL at 17 and he was a 1st rd NHL pick...playing there are 16 isnt bad at all.

Boudreau was good enough to stick last year, they sent him back (he went back) to midget and almost won the scoring race. He's looked great in camp and much more ready this year. Lewis was very solid in camp last year, was sent back and ended up winning defenseman of the year in AAA. For years it seemed the Mooseheads would put anybody they drafted in the top 5 rounds automatically on their team. It ruined a lot of players. Too many young guys have watched their rookie seasons go by from the stands. I like that they've changed that trend.

He wasnt a Moosehead but I feel the best example of a kid who probably could have played at 16 but was sent back and his career was better because of it is Patrice Bergeron.

Grant - Bety - Randell Gelinas - Andrews - Ashley Desjardins - Boudreau - Frk MacDonald - Ciampini - Lemieux Turbide
If Frk shows up and MacDonald is kept I think Ryan would have a very tough time getting the proper icetime. Even if MacDonald or Frk doesn't show isn't kept Turbide has looked ready to play a solid/regular 4th line role.

That's because ' anybody they drafted in the top 5 rounds' was only 2 players each year, after all the draft picks were traded.

Was a big part of it but also skill didn't always seem to matter either. Good player or not... good pick or not... they were on the team and often in the stands. Keeping the picks is only part of the change in mindset.
