When we look at training camp rosters, we always keep an eye for who's coming and who's not coming. It's definitely a unique year in that many of or 2019 draftees are only getting their second look at a train camp and many of the 2020 draftees are attending their first camp (along with the 2021 selections). Remember, last season's training camp consisted mostly of guys expected to make the final roster, plus a few extras who are from PEI or close by.
From the 2019 draft we're missing Luke Vardy, Ryan Greene, Charles-Edward Tardif, and Massimo Gentile. Vardy has been a prep school player since we drafted him, but doesn't yet have an NCAA committment. Gentile did not attend camp in 2019 and is committed to Ottawa in the CCHL (presumably heading NCAA). Both Greene (Boston University) and Tardif (Michigan Tech) have NCAA committments
From the 2020 draft, we have traded away a couple of picks (Logan Constenaro, Angus Booth) and there are a couple of others who are likely NCAA bound and not attending our camp. We drafted Brandon Crowell out of Mount St. Charles prep, where he continued to play last season. William Blackburn was another potential NCAA product who played at Kimball Union prep last year. In addition, Halifax Mac's goaltender Sebastian Lever is not attending our camp this year.
From our current 2021 draft, we've got all of our selections listed as attending rookie camp, but that could change between now and the opening of camp. Nathan Mossey is planning to be playing at Mount St. Charles this coming season and Denver Damphousee is planning on playing with South Kent prep.
No surprise, but none of our selected Americans are coming up for camp.
The European players are not listed as part of our rookie camp.
In addition, we have free agents Alexis Cote, Konnor Benjamin, and Zachary Lorette and there is information about these players in another thread.
Another new free agent is Cole Crowder, son of former NHL tough guy Troy Crowder. Cole is an 02 and brings impressive size (6'5" and 215 lb). For the past two season he has played with St. Benedict's high school in Ontario.
