Not a great return for Stewart, I agree.... but it was about what I expected for a guy who had 1 point in 22 games for us. I know the appeal when we acquired Stewart was for his defensive play and grit, but even for a guy with that sort of role he needs to supply a little more offence than 1 point every 22 games. We paid a 3rd, a 6th, and Anthony Hamel for Stewart. In retrospect, that's too high a price given what sort of production we got for him and what the return was on dealing him out. Stewart is one of those guys who at 19 can be valuable and important on a contending team... he was for us.... but doesn't really command any sort of price in a trade as a 20. I'm curious to see what the end result is with Bailey Peach. He should have a decent value in a trade, but very few teams are looking to acquire a 20 y/o at this point. I understand the logic of holding onto him (bird in the hand; insurance for the event Simoneau turns pro) but the cost of holding onto him is that we won't get value in a trade when we move him. Peach is definitely a guy who would be a good fit in most places as a 20 y/o. But we might be in tough to find the right deal for him. Im hoping there is conditions to this transaction if he makes the team or plays so many games etc otherwise pretty underwhelming return Im not expecting a huge return but who trades a tenth 3 years away? Gotta be conditional on something

It looks on paper the Titan will be the team to beat in the Maritime Div. I feel the Islanders will be in the mix, however with some recent trades would cause one to wonder did they remove a lot of the physical element from their game...

I’m not saying the Isles are the team to beat in the Maritimes, cause they’re not, but I’m not really sure why people are ranking the Titan so high…they were just above mediocre last year, sure they added Lapierre, but am I missing something? What makes this team so good?

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Beauregard and Stewart were dealt.. I said it in a earlier post.. out of the top 3 that should be in the maritimes I’d put the Sea dogs 1st in the goalie department and than it’s a crap shoot between isles and Titan.. the Titan goalies didn’t look great when they played the isles in the playoffs. All depends on what Satny can do. On defence I think it’s the Islanders who are the strongest and than up front I’d say it’s a crap shoot. All 3 teams can score . Than in the coaching department I’d put Hulton ahead of the other 2 it could go any 3 of them teams in any order from 1-3 so anyone trying to predict who the favourites are is just a guess because there is no clear cut favourites

The Islanders are the best of the three (Islanders, Dogs, Titan) in terms of their defence IMO and I believe of the three teams they have the best coaching.

As 16 and 18 YO save% under .900. As 17YO was .902. A good goalie but SJ’s weakness is defense. How will he fare in SJ? CHA. Question mark. How long will it take Satny to adapt and how good will he be? Goobie; so far .876 and .878 in 2 years with strong defensive teams in front of him. Might be a good backup, so it all comes down to Satny. AB. Bednar in Game 1 playoffs vs Cha. .925. In G2 .800. In G3 .946. Apart from game 2 I think he played pretty good. BTW Ellis was . 762 in game 2 so Bednar outplayed Ellis badly in that game Because Satny is an unknown, I will say SJ and AB are close and Cha below them based on uncertainty. Defense: Cha if not the best in league then is 2nd best. Top 4 is awesome. Maynard more than passable as #5. SJ: Villneuve, Poirier, DesRoches, Inness, Drapeau. Offensively right up there with Cha. Defensively.... not based on past years. Can Dwyer coach that into them where other coaches failed. Gordie is a very good coach. I’m thinking he makes a difference. AB: Bellamy, Brants, Larkin, Biggar, Gaudet and Hinkley. Nearly all but 4 maybe 5 teams would love to have that back end. Brants was the best Titan defender most nights 2 years ago as a 17YO. Last year played pro hockey in Latvia. Will be interesting to see what progress if any he made. While Cha is the best on paper, on any given game night, any of the 3 team’s defenses is more than capable of outplaying their counterparts. I don’t see a huge difference anywhere between the teams. Forward: Cha top 6, Simoneau, Budgell, Guay and Brabenec. After that...? Budgell and Simoneau are centres. Do you split them up like the Titan are doing with Kidney and Lapierre? Last year one super strong line was enough. Will that be enough this year? A lot depends on Oliver, Elliot and LeBlanc. SJ: Kotkov,Leonard, Girouard and Carruthers are gone. The big pieces in my mind are Kotkov and equally so Girouard. Girouard was a beast in front of the net. They will miss him for that. But Dufour will bring that and more. Francis, Burns, Reynolds, Lawrence, MacDonald, along with Bezeau, Savoie and Foston. Lots of depth. AB: Top 6 Allison, Kidney and MacArthur, then Huckins, Lapierre and Melanson. Chisholm, Doucet and Andrews next. On paper the best top 9 of the 3 teams. Most important factor will be coaching. Hulton has the track record. Dwyer just has that something that makes me feel he can pull it off. Durocher has gone all the way in the past. Will be a fun year for the 3 teams

Ben boyd I think will have a big year scoring… I think a lot of his goals will be met front presence and garbage goals. Also wouldn’t be surprised to see Patty Lablanc have a breakout year. But I agree isles are thin up front.

I think the Islanders are eying size on the blueline as the build the rest of the roster. I know things aren't set in stone yet, but after the top four of Cormier/Trudeau/Laaouan/Plandowski, you have: Mathis Aguilar, 17, 6'1", 197 lb Ryan Maynard, 19, 6'2", 190 lb Matt McQuaid, 18, 6'2", 168 lb Beran Simard, 17, 6'1", 186 lb Isaac Vos, 17, 5'9, 150 lb With the exception of Vos, that's some impressive size in developing players. Aguilar and Simard have great size at 17. McQuaid will likely add weight to his frame over the next couple of years. I think the team is really emphasizing building a defence that can play a hard, tough, physical game. CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Jim Hulton hopes to finalize the Charlottetown Islanders’ season-opening roster following this weekend’s two exhibition games against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
The Islanders host the Titan at a sold-out MacLauchlan Arena on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m., and make the return visit to Bathurst, N.B., for a 3 p.m. faceoff on Sept. 12.
“We have a couple of decisions left on the blue-line,” said Hulton, general manager and head coach of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team. “(Defencemen Matt) McQuaid, (Isaac) Vos and (Beren) Simard all had various minor injuries in the first part of training camp, so to be fair to them, we wanted to assess them in game action.
“We will be looking at them this weekend and, with our returning group, (looking) to get our timing back.”
Hulton said the Islanders will ice a bit of a make-shift lineup this weekend as some of the team’s regulars have left for National Hockey League camps. Defenceman Noah Laaouan and forward Brett Budgell left on Sept. 8 for Arizona and Toronto, respectively.
Forward Pat Guay, who battled an illness, arrived in Charlottetown earlier this week, and the team’s two import players have yet to land in the P.E.I. capital.
Hulton said goaltender Oliver Satny arrives this week, and forward Jakub Brabenec arrives following the Vegas Golden Knights’ camp.
Drew Elliott, a third-year forward from Saint John, N.B., said training camp is proceeding nicely, and all the players put in a lot of work over the summer to be ready.
Elliott, who can play left wing and centre, said the players are looking forward to returning to game action this weekend.
“We have a lot of new guys and are excited to see everybody and how we play together,” said Elliott, 18. “We have to get back in the swing of things with the systems … and make the game flow more. We are really excited about that.”
Asked if there’s anything in particular the coaching staff is looking to see in this weekend’s games, Hulton answered, “We want some of the trademarks of what we want our team identity to be. The hard work goes without saying, but the tenacity, the persistence this club has displayed in the last couple of years. For the vets, to make sure they get their game habits back.”
The Islanders also play pre-season games in Charlottetown against the Cape Breton Eagles on Sept. 18 at 4 p.m., and the Moncton Wildcats on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. Charlottetown closes out its exhibition schedule with a road contest in Moncton on Sept. 26 at 4 p.m.
The Islanders open the regular season with a home-and-home series against the Saint John Sea Dogs. The teams meet in Saint John on Oct. 1 and at Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown on Oct. 2.

Budgell getting a hard look in Toronto. Started off on the third or fourth line at the start of the rookie tournament, last game he moved up to the second with Abramov, today he’s on the first line with Nick Robertson and SDA.
Looks like Laaouen has also played good for Arizona as well.
